God Will

We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, LORD, even as we put our hope in you. Psalms 33:20-22

Lord willing I plan to travel to Northern Uganda with two faithful leaders from the St Croix Valley LEAD Team. Our flight is scheduled to take off August 31 and we plan to return September 11. Larry Szyman and Stu Dix have formed the “regulars” in the training of this cohort of leaders. Larry and Stu are the kind of faithful men the Apostle Paul had in mind (2 Timothy 2:2). We will be working through “Understanding and Communicating Poetry”. This curriculum focuses on handling the Psalms faithfully, with two sessions dedicated to Proverbs. I’m really looking forward to gazing on the beauty of the Lord and declaring His praise together!

We will continue to invest in the training and evaluation of six Ugandan trainers. These Lead Trainers have been faithful in their preparation and have received input and instruction so very well! Each of these men will be guiding one of our three learning groups through two sessions. We spend two days working through their sessions prior to the arrival of the rest of the students.

Our hope is that we will be able to manage a schedule of training this cohort every other month until we finish, Lord willing, in May 2022. It is so easy to recognize the great gift God has given us to invest in the lives of these leaders! I am thrilled to see glimpses of what God wills.

A Surprise Gift

A few months ago I received a message forwarded to me from another TLI staff member. The message came from a staff member at Christianbook, formerly known as Christian Book Distributors (CBD). They invest a great deal of resources sending Christian books to other parts of the world. They were interested in sending books to support a healthy network of church leaders in Uganda. As we processed the opportunity I contacted our national partner, Four Corners Ministry in Gulu. Kris Mobbs, the Director told me they had been praying for a library to support the work we’ve been doing in training church leaders for a very long time. The cost of purchasing books and then shipping them to Uganda was simply overwhelming. Christianbook has agreed to provide and ship one full pallet of books (between 10,000-15,000 volumes) to form the foundation of a great library. It may also be possible for us to provide a small personal library to each of the leaders in our training. The team at Four Corners will pick up the books in Kampala and transport them 5+ hours North to their campus near Gulu. What an incredible gift God has given! It is also thrilling to see amazing connections within the family of God. I’m grateful for the vision and generosity of Christianbook, and always for the team at Four Corners! God will!

Will you join us in prayer? Ask God to demonstrate His glory, even through us as we prepare, travel, and lead these sessions. Lift up the Ugandan Lead Trainers and the Four Corners staff as they care for those in the training.

I am humbled once again that God willed that I could be part of this training. Thank you to all who pray and give. God is pleased to use us once again, for His glory!
